A toilet that flushes to the tone of the Italian national anthem has been seized by the police on nothern Italy, creating a huge controversy.

The offending toilet was the creation of two local artists and was on display at the Bolzano Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Prosecutors in charge of the case said that the anthem “Fratelli d'Italia” is a national symbol and should not be the subject of ridicule. The lawyers for the Museum allege that the song while having a strong sentimental value, it's not a national symbol.

A judgment is expected next week.
